Guided Fly Fishing On the Salmon River
Go places only fish previously dreamed possible. Cast into the undiscovered fishery of the upper Salmon River for rainbow, bull and cutthroat trout. Catch them where they lie while you float on by.
With time-tested guides and specially-equipped rafts with casting platforms on the front and back, White Cloud Adventures hooks you on the sport and the scene in the Sawtooth Valley. It’s an angle on Idaho few ever get to see. As you explore miles of river with peak-filled views, our expert guides with an average of 20+ years of experience give you the lowdown on what lies under the surface. Out here, you catch sight of our deep, old-school cred in our smile lines and the way we reel them in. Plus, we offer this guarantee: You’ll catch fish or your money back. Now that’s a promise.
Forget the discomfort and restrictions of waders. Say goodbye to random, over-used fishing pullouts on the side of the road. This is the only way to fly. We serve up snacks (or a feast-style lunch for a full day), plus beverages. White Cloud Adventures makes it easy for everyone from beginners to seasoned anglers to go with the flow, and get where they want to go. All while opening up better casting. Cutting down on line tangles. And giving both you and your fly more quality time on the river.

Your Fishing Adventure at a Glance!
Our casting instructors will teach the basics of fly fishing alongside the Salmon River in a relaxed, friendly environment. After your casting clinic and equipment course, the guides will drive you a brief distance to the boat ramp where we will have a short safety speech and we will discuss the features of our specialized fly fishing boats with you.
The guides will continue honing your newly learned fly fishing skills as you float down the Salmon River. The Salmon River holds a variety of species, mostly cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and bull trout all of which you can expect to catch. Enjoy the day, expand your knowledge of fishing with our guides and we will see you back at our headquarters.
Full-Day Guided Fly Fishing
We typically meet at 8:30 a.m., however, please check in a few days in advance to check arrival time. Morning temperatures can sometimes affect our arrival times.
Our full-day float fishing trips are typically six to seven hours on the water. Fly fishing and white water rafting are combined in a unique section of water on the Salmon River. Our specialized fishing boats can access this remote section of the river, allowing guests a bounty of cutthroat trout.
Our boats can accommodate two anglers. Drift boats are used in optimum fishing conditions; otherwise, we use specially designed rafts with fishing frames. Headwater’s fly fishing guides provide you with a knowledgeable, professional guide to ensure a great day of fishing the Salmon River.
We are exactly what our name states; “Headwater’s Fly-Fishing Guides,” specializing in fishing the headwaters of the Salmon River north of Sun Valley, Idaho. These waters provide excellent dry-fly fishing. The Salmon River is not a trophy trout stream, but a fish factory producing fish averaging 13-16 inches and heavier trout in the 20-in range.
Drift boats or fishing rafts can accommodate two anglers per boat.
Our fishing trips start early in the day so we advise bringing a warm jacket to fend off mountain morning temperatures. We also advise bringing a rain jacket just in case.
Please stay away from cotton clothing, cotton gets wet and stays wet and may ultimately affect the enjoyment of your trip. Wet wading is advised (no waders needed), sneakers, shorts, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a long sleeve t-shirt are recommend for warm summer days. All fishing gear is provided but we do suggest bringing your favorite rod along with you. Dry bags are also onboard the boats to stow any gear you may want to bring along.
We’ll fish as long as there isn’t hazardous lightning, but ultimately it’s up to you. If you are not comfortable with what Mother Nature is offering and would like to reschedule or cancel, (even the morning of the trip) we have a 100 % money-back policy, no questions asked.
